But… moving on, good news! Got cast in slaughterhouse 5! Feel good now that I held out for this show. Great right? well…

Here’s the thing, (and yeah I’m gonna bitch for a minute, so if you’re not interested yall can leave devinritchie.com. Directly). I studied for this play so hard. I read the play like 4 times, broke it down, read into characters, I even read the fuckin novel for this show. And I don’t read books. I need to prepare like this for every audition because I apparently don’t have the natural panache others have to just walk in to any audition and get cast on mere talent. But I got cast so what am I bitching about? Well, I’m playing a smaller role than I had hoped for. That’s fine. I really don’t mind doing ensemble roles, especially in a show like this. If you are familiar with Slaughterhouse, I am playing the British soldier named Reggie. The guy who puts on a production of Cinderella for the other soldiers, and stars as Cinderella. …That’s right. Somehow in a play about time travel, war, and the DRESDEN BOMBING I got cast as the ONE man who wears a dress. Yes ladies and gentlemen, the only fag in the play is in drag. I’m a fucking walking talking gay joke. I’m nearly offended. I’m just tired of this gay joke thing. It will be funny and I will do it well. But, ugh. This sort of thing has been happening to me a lot. Its not acting, its a fucking perpetuation of a stereotype. Most my friends got the roles they wanted, bad ass army guys who fight, or characters with real

depth. I’m the fag in the dress. Moreover, the person who got a role I wanted and literally cues my entrance, and has a more pivotal part than I, is the same person who missed his god damn entrance in Philadelphia Story (my last play), leaving me to have to improvise and cover for him. I was a fish out of god damn water in front of an audience. Twice. Yes TWICE. we only performed it seven times. Why we rehearse for 2 months to not even bother going on stage is beyond me. But I guess that’s how to prove yourself as a dedicated actor. So I feel a bit slapped in the face being a gay joke, and being cast under someone who has done this to me on stage. That is my rant. And now its over.

Let’s put 2 and 2 together… I am no longer excited about this play due to casting and the fact that there is 20 people in it. AND I need money BAD. Do I drop the play? For my own sake and sanity and so I can be an adult paying off my fines. Or should I go gay it up and play dress up?

I’m headed to the bay in the morning. Kyle is having me take a train out there and were going to the Scottish Games in Pleasanton tomorrow, and the wine festival in Livermore on Sunday. Good. I need some space and clarity. And thank god Ruth is home tonight, I’m going out for the first time in a while. I have been taking it easy recently. But now its time to go celebrate my Scottish roots and wine taste. Watch pipers and get food from Clan McKintosh. Cant wait.

I dunno what to do I’m all lost and confused yall.

Tracy Lord, of the Philadelphia Lords has married C.K. Dexter Haven and divorced him when he, resenting her chilling attitude toward the comforting virtues of domesticity, takes to liquor. A little while later she has taken up with a handsome man snob of the mines named Kittredge and is about to marry him. One of the calender paper social gossip weeklies sends a reporter and a camera woman to cover the wedding. They are injected into the house by Tracy’s brother, Sandy, who hopes to divert their attention from Father Lord’s affair with a Broadway actress. Howdy everybody, a lot has been going on so lets waste no time.

The biggest thing is now my maternal Grandma now lives with us here in Sacramento. She has been staying here since Christmas but now its official. We just moved all her stuff up here from Tustin. Obviously this changes my living situation quite a bit. I cant be as, well, for lack of better words, a ridiculous fabulous drunk. She is very old and can no longer live on her own, this is for the best.

Secondly there has been a lot of wonders about my moms job being outsourced, and yes we even toyed with the idea of moving to Atlanta, Georgia. Things are up in the air, but fret not.  It doesn’t look like we will move to GA and my mom will still have a job no matter what. I do not belong in Georgia, I know that, but the adventure might be fun.

Big news! I got cast as Sandy Lord in The Philadelphia Story at ARC!! A really great part and the only part I wanted. This is the first time this has happened for me and I’m an so fucking excited ^_^ we start rehearsals on Monday yay. The play opens April 22nd. I will definitely let you guys know.

Also I have been dating, weird right? haha, I almost feel like I needed to make up for the years where I dated no one. So I have dated a few people the past few months. Most importantly was my first real boyfriend Tim. This was all very new and odd for me. We dated for about a month and half or something. And now were on a break, or broken up, I cant really tell. It’s kinda confusing. Either way, this was kinda a big deal for me personally. I mean I’m 22, time to man up and just get a bf right? I dont even know whats going on with other people I have been casually seeing. Perhaps I just need to get back to being single Devin. I’m much better at that I feel.

Other than all this going on I have just been going to school, hanging out, an partying a lot . Dont worry, I’m being responsible enough. All though I do have a few scrapes and bruises from Reno lol. Long story.

I am now working out cause I started to get lazy and slightly thicker. That was no good.

I’m going to start more honest blogging like this. I just have to decide on where the line of censorship is…

I don’t know where I’m headed, but I am convinced that it’s in a good direction.

I apologize for the time when the site was down. The truth is I couldn’t pay my hosting fee, and quite frankly I needed a break from blogging. So I let it go for a couple months, lost all my momentum, my base, and over 100 blog posts. But here is to new beginnings! Cheers!

Now to catch you up on the last few months, first of all. I cut off all my hair.

That’s how long it was. And this is what it looks like now…

and that is my buddy and hair stylist Sean. I cut it for my birthday, I turned 22 on October 3rd. And yes, I did donate my hair to Locks Of Love. On my actual birthday; me, my family, and friends went into San Francisco and us kids went to LovEvolution or Lovefest. We got a hotel, got real real shwasty and it was amazing! Went out and bar hopped in the city and danced my face off. The next day we went to the Hardly Strictly bluegrass festival in Golden Gate park, drank some champagne and had a real nice picnic, also amazing.

I am taking a break from most theatre right now in efforts to refocus my life, and it has been going well. I am taking a full load of units at school with classes like statatistics, screenwriting, ceramics, and a design class for our literary magazine I am really enjoying this semester as different as it is.

I did a readers theatre productions of our lit mag at school and it went awesome!

For the past couple months I have just been going to school, hanging out with friends, drinking, partying, dating, trying not to care. I am on a different path, but it’s fun, and seems to be leading somewhere alright.

I am still doing improv and Comedy Sportz, which is going real well. But other than that, I am now on a break from theatre mostly. Which is good and well needed.

I will update the blog just like I used to and I will continue to redesign the format. Check back for updates. I have a lot of stories to tell from over the last few months. Silly, ridiculous, drunken shenanagans.

I am sure that I am forgetting a bunch of things, but there will be plenty of time to go over them.
